Solar Panel Success
Published on:At Source, sustainability isn’t something we talk about for the sake of it — it’s something we’ve actively built into how we operate day to day.
Nearly three years ago, we made a significant investment in our future by installing 84 solar panels at our site. The goal was simple: take control of our energy use and reduce our reliance on grid electricity while supporting our transition to a cleaner delivery fleet.
So, how has the solar roof performed?
In short — exactly how we’d hoped.
Over the past three years, our solar installation has consistently generated enough renewable electricity to power three of our electric vehicles (EVs) as they operate in and out of London every single day.
That’s not just a nice statistic — it translates into real operational impact.
What that looks like in practice
- Nearly 10,000 deliveries per year into London
- Delivered using 100% electric vehicles
- Powered largely by renewable energy generated on-site
This means those deliveries are producing zero tailpipe emissions, which is critical when operating in and around London — particularly within the ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone).
But it goes a step further.
Because the electricity powering those vehicles is coming from our solar panels, we’re also significantly reducing the indirect emissions that would typically come from drawing electricity from the grid.
EVs came first — solar made them even better
We’ve actually been running EVs longer than we’ve had solar installed. But adding solar into the mix has been a genuine step-change.
It’s turned our fleet from “low emission” into something much closer to truly sustainable logistics — where both the vehicle and the energy powering it are part of the solution.
Why this matters for our customers
For our customers — particularly those operating in facilities management and commercial cleaning — sustainability is no longer a “nice to have.”
It’s a requirement.
By combining solar energy with electric delivery vehicles, we’re able to offer:
- Lower environmental impact per delivery
- Compliance with London’s emissions regulations
- A supply chain that actively supports your own sustainability goals
Looking ahead
Three years in, the system continues to perform reliably, delivering consistent renewable energy and supporting our operations without disruption.
And we’re not stopping here.
This is just one part of a wider commitment to building a cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready supply chain.
