Source Supplies have been nominated at finalists for the 2014 Toast of Surrey Business Awards in the category for Apprenticeship Scheme of the Year.

We have a really healthy blend of experience and youth at Source. As a company, we openly encourage all our team members to widen their responsibilities and the younger team members are constantly learning from our older heads.

Taking on our first apprentice nearly two years ago (Mikey, 20) we didn’t really know what to expect. Now a fully fledged and valuable team member making dozens of decisions everyday, Mikey now has another apprentice working alongside him.

Ben, 16, came to us straight from school and is learning at a rapid rate. As with any young adults, they are maturing all the time and it is part of our responsibility to support and mentor them.

Sophie, also 20, has been with us for a year now but did not come through an apprenticeship scheme. Having impressed us from the off, Sophie is a key part of the team and will continue to have an increasingly significant role as she develops professionally. Part of this development includes doing an apprenticeship in a subject that will help her further her career with Source.

I think it’s fair to say we’re underdogs in this competition given that the two other finalists are specific apprenticeship businesses but it’s great to have our commitment to youth recognised by a prestigious business awards competition.

The awards are dished out in Guildford at Glive on Thursday 13th March and the team are all looking forward to getting dolled up and enjoying a team party.

Wish us luck!

Here’s the list of all the finalists across every category.
